New York City is the Big Apple, but it’s also a city of big needs, which is where Food Bank For NYC comes in and why generous New Yorkers, such as Marsha Porcell, have chosen to make Food Bank part of their estate plans.

Knowing firsthand from her childhood how difficult life can be for struggling New Yorkers, Marsha feels a strong desire to help hard-working New Yorkers who are fighting for food security. A strong supporter of Food Bank For NYC, she has decided to include the organization in her estate plan through a bequest in her will. She has also made Food Bank the beneficiary of some annuities.

“Despite being poor as a kid, and since becoming financially fortunate, I have chosen to give to people who need it the most,” Marsha says.

Since becoming involved with Food Bank For NYC, Marsha has been able to refer someone she knew who was struggling with food insecurity to Food Bank. She is also pleased that the organization even provides pet food so that pet lovers don’t go hungry to care for their animal companions.

Marsha’s estate gift is unrestricted, meaning she trusts the leadership of Food Bank For NYC to continue using its resources wisely. She urges others to join her in supporting Food Bank through their estate plans.

“Ask yourself how much you care,” Marsha says. “And if you care, even if you have kids, do something to reflect your values through your estate. You decide how much goes where. Every gift matters.”
