Tamer Mahmoud Uses Whole Life Insurance Policy to Support Future Generations of New Yorkers

Contributing to the mission of Food Bank For NYC benefits those who give at the same time it helps those who receive. That’s something Tamer Mahmoud discovered when he started volunteering with Food Bank for NYC during COVID—when thousands of people were newly facing food insecurity.

Now, by augmenting his annual contributions and volunteer work with a planned gift, Tamer has discovered the satisfaction of knowing he will be helping feed families in need far into the future.

A native and current resident of Staten Island, Tamer has served as a volunteer at the community kitchen in Harlem and at the warehouse in the Bronx. But working with vendors to collect donated food from farmers’ markets was perhaps the experience that touched him the most. “Being there and helping collect donations was a humbling experience, playing even a small role in helping feed my fellow New Yorkers,” he says. “I felt proud to be contributing in that manner.”

Tamer said a beneficiary designation from a whole life insurance policy was an ideal giving vehicle for the Food Bank, while other giving vehicles were better suited to provide for his immediate family. He hopes others will join him in making a planned gift to support the Food Bank for NYC mission. “I strongly believe that each dollar goes a long way in supporting the work of Food Bank for NYC and no legacy is too big or small,” he says. “The best thing one can do is to consider leaving the world in a better place than they found it.”
